This happy little chappy is affectionately called "Baby Jack". He's 9mths old, so he really is a baby.Baby Jack is loved by all in kennels. But he needs a forever home. He's a terrier X, as I said he's 9mths old. His vet work is all done. So he's a pupster in waiting. Waiting on some kind person to give him the home he deserves. It would need to be an active home where Baby Jack will be exercised to burn off some of his youthful energy. He has one funny little quirk though. He won't play with a ball, but you throw a Teddy & he'll fetch & bring it to you.. How cute is that?. In order to meet this little sweetie, you can call out to kennels eir code A91 CP82 After 11am anyday. Or e-mail info@louthspca.ie & leave your details. Share at will... Thank You... ... Most, if not all of us pet owners of any species, will readily admit to feeling very protective of our pets. We worry if they are unwell, we do whatever is necessary to keep them happy & healthy.
We talk to them like you would a child, in fact, in relation to cats & dogs we often call them our furbabies.. As such, & I wonder how many of us will admit to talking to them in a voice often reserved for babies??. Most, if not all of you know that voice we put on.. All we need to do is admit it..lol
But pet ownership is a responsibility, one the majority take in our stride & provided our pets are healthy we don't need to worry about it really. However, when they are sick, then our worry & stress can go into overdrive. We go to the vet with certain concerns, & we hope whatever illness our beloved pet has will clear quickly & they will be in fine fettle again.
From our perspective, our pets fulfill the nurturing side of our personalities. Especially if we've had children, who are now grown up & are off living their own lives. Alot of us like the feeling of someone or something depending on us. The caring side of our nature almost demands it.. Without it, or trying to ignore it is generally futile. So, our pets become our charges & in some cases they are the only companion a person has in life. Those people, live for their pets. Some actually do without to make sure their pets eat properly. Although that is not recommended it is understandable. Because there is nothing greater in that person's life than the love & loyalty of that pet, it is their world & without their pet, life would be a much more lonely place. We can never underestimate the bond & love between a person & their pet.
All to often we hear the negative & the abuse of animals. These cases definitely need to be highlighted for what they are, & those perpetrators need to be dealt with by the courts.
Having said that we also need to acknowledge all the good pet owners, to remind ourselves there is more good than bad in the world, in all walks of life but in particular pet ownership... So give your pet no matter what the species an extra little cuddle today, because you can...

Are you considering getting a dog??
Here's some questions you should ask yourself, before you make that decision....

Are you & your family ready for a 15yr commitment?

Is your home suitable for a dog?

If living in a rental property, what is your landlords policy on having a dog?

If your living in local authority housing, then you can't have certain breeds, they are listed under Control of dogs regulations...

Is your families lifestyle suited to caring for a dog?

Are all family members in agreement & willing to help with looking after the dog?

Will it be surrendered if a new baby comes into the home?

Who will care for it if you go into hospital or on holidays?

Do you have the financial means to cover, food bedding microchipping vet bills grooming boarding & so on..

Have you considered a particular breed or mixed breed?

If you've made an informed decision to get a dog. Please don't buy a dog from a breeder while rescues & pounds are inundated with perfectly good dogs, who were let down by humans already.

The above is a sample of questions you should ask yourself before making a final decision about getting a dog....

Don't believe your teenagers. Assume you will walk the dog. The days they do walk your dog will be a bonus. I think that a lot of people get dogs thinking that they lie on a sofa all day and appreciate the odd rub. Can you fit in 2 to 3 decent walks per day? Can you afford pet insurance? Can you afford trips to the vet if your dog develops a condition? I may sound harsh but people need to answer these questions honestly before adopting a dog and then causing turmoil to the poor dog when it is returned.

Dog can live beyond the 15 yrs, but they need extra guidance and care. Having a pup can be like having a toddler, say goodbye to notions of a very clean home...

Love this🐕🐈‍⬛🐾

Adopted pepper (now willow) off fiona a couple of months ago . Best thing I ever did ..she's a great little pup ♥️

A massive "Thank You" to the management of Supervalu Ardee. For allowing us host our bucket collection on Friday & Saturday May 3rd & 4th on their premises. "Thank You" to our volunteers who were on hand both days.
Last, but by no means least, a "Massive Thank You" to you the public, who yet again supported us so generously. Your donations circa €1610. We in Louth Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (Louth SPCA) are extremely grateful to you all, for your unwavering support..Thank You ❤️🐕🐈🐾

Well done guys 👏👏👏

Good manners....
Good manners are taught at an early age. In humans,a simple "Please & Thank You" can & is considered basic manners.
Now we know dogs can't say "Please & Thank You", so what is basic manners in dogs.
One of the main ones is, when meeting people the dog remains quiet & seated until the person greets them with the owners permission. Even then there should be no jumping up. Another one is no mouthing, & definitely no licking, that's considered very rude.
Because not everyone appreciates a big sloppy doggie kiss..
When greeting other dogs it should be done in a calm manner.
There should be no chasing bikes cars people or small animals. That has to be a difficult one for some breeds.
A well mannered dog is calm, & a joy to be around.
Naturally every dog needs time to run have fun play & just be in the moment.
But in all of this, it's also vitally important for children from the earliest age learn to respect our pets. Young children should only interact with dogs under the strictest of supervision by a responsible adult. That excludes letting a child pull & drag out of a dog while the adult records it.
Good manners costs nothing, yet in both humans & dogs they certainly get noticed & more often than not commented on.
Thanks for reading.
